Capital operatives detained a man at Odessa airport for theft of 105 thousand US dollars
The attacker stole money from a friend's apartment and tried to escape from Ukraine. Investigators have classified the incident as a theft committed on a particularly large scale, for which up to twelve years in prison is provided.
The police received a report of an apartment theft on Mikhail Boichuk Street. The owner reported that the safe was damaged and $105,000 was missing. The investigator-operational team left at the specified address.
The head of the Pechersk police department Andriy Dubrova said that the law enforcement officers carried out first-line investigative actions, talked with the owner of the apartment and found out that his comrade may be involved in the crime:
“It was established that one of the victim's foreign comrades, who was in Ukraine, had access to the house. Taking advantage of the absence of the owners, the intruder entered the apartment and, damaging the safe with tools, stole money from there. As a result of operational and search measures, operational personnel established the location of the suspect. He was found at the airport in Odessa when he was trying to leave Ukraine.
The man was detained in accordance with Art. 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. He turned out to be a citizen of another state, born in 1975. During a surface inspection, the stolen funds were discovered and seized from him.
The Investigative Department of the Pechersk Police Department opened criminal proceedings under Part 5 of Art. 185 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine - theft. In agreement with the district prosecutor's office, the defendant was informed of the suspicion of committing a crime. Investigators filed a petition with the court to choose a preventive measure for the suspect - detention. The sanction of the article provides for up to twelve years imprisonment with confiscation of property.
