Today, October 28, the Kharkiv court chose a precautionary measure against a 16-year-old driver who caused a fatal accident. The teenager was taken into custody for 60 days without the right to post bail.
The car accident occurred on October 26, 2021 at about 20:40 in the area of the intersection of Gagarin and Odessa streets. A 16-year-old driver of “Infiniti” tried to cross the intersection at a red traffic light signal and collided with a Chevrolet car. As a result of the accident, the 58-year-old driver of the Chevrolet died on the spot, three passengers of the Infiniti - two 19-year-old men and a 16-year-old girl with serious injuries - were taken to hospital.
The head of the crime investigation department in the field of transport of SU GUNP in the Kharkiv region Alexander Umnikov said that the accident occurred precisely because of the fault of the driver of “Infiniti”, who grossly violated the rules of the road and drove at the red signal of the traffic light. The culprit himself was taken to the hospital as a result of the car accident, but refused hospitalization. The car driven by the teenager is registered to his mother, the woman now works abroad.
The head of the department of the investigative department also noted that in the summer of 2021, the detainee was already prosecuted for intentional infliction of moderate bodily harm. The court gave him a sentence of two years in prison with a conditional sentence of one year.
In September this year, the police already stopped the driver of the “Infiniti” for violating traffic rules. Patrols drew up two administrative protocols for the teenager, one of which was for driving without a driver's license.
Recall that Kharkiv investigators opened criminal proceedings under Part 2 of Article 286 (violation of the rules of road safety or operation of transport by persons driving vehicles) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
