Investigators of the National Police detained a deputy of the Kolomyia City Council, who was under international investigation for committing a fatal accident
After a long hiding abroad from law enforcement agencies, the defendant was detained in Poland and extradited to Ukraine. On January 5, the court chose a preventive measure for him in the form of detention.
In November 2016, a traffic accident occurred in the Ivano-Frankivsk region, as a result of which two pedestrians died. During the pre-trial investigation, the investigators of the Main Investigative Department of the National Police of Ukraine established that the driver of the Audi car, a former deputy of one of the local councils of Ivano-Frankivsk region, hit pedestrians.
After conducting relevant expert investigations, the investigators of the National Police Service informed the defendant about the suspicion of committing a traffic accident, as a result of which several people died. In order to avoid responsibility for committing a serious crime, the suspect immediately left the territory of Ukraine. Law enforcement officers urgently declared him an international wanted man.
After several years of hiding abroad, the defendant was detained by law enforcement agencies on the territory of the Republic of Poland.
On January 4 of this year, the offender was extradited to Ukraine within the framework of international cooperation. Yesterday, January 5, the investigating judge of the Pechersk district court A preventive measure in the form of detention was chosen for the exhibitor in Kyiv. The actions of the suspect are qualified under Part 3 of Art. 286 (Violation of the rules of road safety or operation of vehicles by persons driving vehicles) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The offender faces up to 10 years in prison.
