The situation in the pilgrimage center is stable and controlled — Oleksandr Facevych
More than 29,000 Hasidic pilgrims arrived in Uman to celebrate Rosh Hashanah. The streets of the city during the Jewish New Year are patrolled around the clock by about a thousand law enforcement officers. This was announced today, September 6, by the Deputy Head of the National Police of Ukraine Oleksandr Fatsevich.
According to him, there is an interdepartmental operational headquarters in the city of Uman, which was created by order of the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine. The headquarters included representatives of the National Police, the State Emergency Service, the National Guard and the Migration Service.
“The headquarters planned and organized preventive exercises, which began on August 28. Accordingly, we now have a good result, in particular it is a lower number of registrations of offenses compared to previous years. We can state that the police and other units worked professionally,” Oleksandr Fatsevich said.
The Deputy Head of the National Police said that at present, on the occasion of the celebration of the Jewish New Year, about a thousand law enforcement officers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in a strengthened mode monitor public security in the pilgrimage center.
Alexander Facevich also thanked his colleagues from Israel for their help in organizing and carrying out security measures during Rosh Hashanah.
The head of the Main Department of the National Police in the Cherkasy region Mikhail Kuratchenko noted that in general the situation in the city is under control. Appropriate measures are taken and preventive work is carried out to comply with quarantine requirements.
“Since the stay of pilgrims in the city of Uman, 38 reports have been received. According to the results of their consideration, 6 administrative protocols were drawn up, of them: two for violation of the conditions of stay in the city by pilgrims, also on petty hooliganism and one administrative protocol - for violation of the requirements of traffic rules.
Also, Mykhailo Kuratchenko noted that three criminal proceedings have been initiated: on the fact of distribution with signs of forgery of certificates on the passage of PCR tests, the provision by an Israeli citizen of certificates with signs of forgery for the right to drive a vehicle and on the fact of sale in the city of bats, electrocuters and knives: “We have started criminal proceedings and appointed relevant expert studies,” said Mikhail Kuratchenko.
According to the head of the Israeli police delegation, Daniel Agham, 11 police officers arrived in Uman to serve at the pilgrimage site and help Ukrainian colleagues. The delegation includes negotiators, experts, representatives of the patrol service and special forces.
“I wanted to emphasize that the cooperation between the Israeli and Ukrainian police is at the highest level. I want to thank our colleagues for their service and for ensuring the safety of Israeli citizens who visit places of pilgrimage,” said Daniel Agham.
