Serhiy Deyneko and Erhan Gulveren discussed the steps of cooperation between the departments of Ukraine and the Republic of Turkey
Today, December 15, the Administration of the State Border Guard Service held a meeting of the Head of the Department Serhiy Deynek with the Deputy Director General of the Main Directorate of Security of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Turkey Erhan Gulveren. At the beginning of the meeting, the Turkish delegation participated in the ceremony of honoring Ukrainian soldiers, who died in the struggle for the independence of Ukraine, in the memorial complex “Hall of Remembrance”.
The parties discussed steps of cooperation and development of ties at all levels.
As Serhiy Deineko noted, today's meeting will certainly contribute to establishing cooperation between the departments in the interests of Ukraine and Turkey.
“Cooperation with the law enforcement agencies of the Republic of Turkey is strategically important for us. After all, such cooperation allows to effectively confront cross-border crime,” said the Head of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.
Erhan Gulveren noted that all units that are part of the structure of the Ministry of Internal Affairs are also ready to interact with Ukrainian border guards. He expressed support for the territorial integrity of Ukraine and noted that joint work will bring fruitful results for both sides.
Separately, Serhiy Deineko added about the already established active interaction with the Turkish Coast Guard both in a bilateral format and within the framework of the Black Sea Border Cooperation Forum. In particular, with the support of the Turkish Party, Ukraine has established a new working group on combating drug smuggling and other illegal activities in the Black Sea, with the aim of conducting a joint analysis of threats in the Black Sea and planning further measures to counter them.
“At the same time, we are interested in expanding cooperation in the areas of exchange of information and experience in the issues of border procedures, combating illegal migration, smuggling and other illegal activities, training personnel and adopting the experience of expert research of passport documents,” said the head of the State Fiscal Service.
He also informed his colleague about the main tasks of the State Border Guard Service and noted that the main threats at the state border of Ukraine remain manifestations of hybrid aggression of the Russian Federation, transit illegal migration of citizens of Asian and African countries to the EU, as well as smuggling, the most striking manifestation of which are attempts to move drugs of the shipping channels, and the illegal movement of goods, especially tobacco products, to the EU.
“Taking into account the existing threats to border security and the experience gained in eight years of war, we continue to develop both the law enforcement and military component,” Serhiy Deineko said.
The Turkish delegates asked about the situation in the area of the PLO and the functioning of the entry and exit checkpoints, to which they were informed about the continuation of the blocking by illegal armed formations of the movement of people through the demarcation line on the road corridors. Today, of the 7 checkpoints, in fact, only one works daily and another twice a week.
During the communication, the issue of the passage of citizens at the borders of both countries and what measures the parties take to strengthen border security was also discussed in detail. In this direction, in particular, the experience of countries in in-depth verification of the conditions of entry of foreigners and the development of risk analysis during border control, exposure of illegal migration channels and the use of forged documents were discussed.
The Turkish delegation was able to get acquainted with how Ukrainian border guards work at checkpoints at the capital's airport, immediately after arriving in our country. Also, as part of the visit, representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Turkey plan to get acquainted with the activities of the special unit of the State DPS “DOZOR” and the Main Personnel Training Center.
