Emergency rescue workers told and showed how to safely celebrate the New Year and Christmas holidays
In order for the winter holidays to pass safely and without any extraordinary events, it is necessary to observe the elementary rules of fire safety. This is what rescuers emphasized during a practical master class, which took place on December 21 at the test site of the Institute of Public Administration and Scientific Research on Civil Defense.
Statistics show that during the New Year and Christmas holidays, the number of fires increases significantly, as well as cases of injury to people caused by improper operation of pyrotechnic products and electric garlands of poor quality, or not certified at all.
Thus, during the three months of the winter period 2020/2021, due to careless handling of pyrotechnic products, 14 fires occurred, of which 10 occurred directly on the night of December 31 to January 1, 2021. This was announced by the speaker of the event, chief inspector of the preventive work department of the Fire Safety Department of the Emergency Prevention Department of the State Emergency Situations of Ukraine Roman Rudak.
For example, on December 31 last year in Dnipro, a fire broke out in a private residential building, as a result of which three people died. On January 1, 2021, a car almost burned down in Chernihiv, the reason was carelessness during the use of fireworks.
In Odessa on New Year's Eve, a balcony and a room on the sixth floor of a high-rise building caught fire, in Nikolaev - a balcony on the sixth floor of a nine-story building, in both cases the reason is careless use of pyrotechnic devices. In Mariupol, in a preschool educational institution, on January 1, during the use of pyrotechnic devices, a fire broke out, furniture was damaged by fire.
So, in order to inform citizens about how to prevent accidents and not spoil the holidays, the specialists of the State Emergency Service have announced the basic rules for installing the main New Year attribute - a decorated Christmas tree.
In particular, the green beauty needs to be installed only on a stable basis so that the branches do not touch the walls and ceiling, and are also at a safe distance from electrical appliances. It is forbidden to install candles, Bengal lights and decorate it with flammable materials on the Christmas tree.
Regarding the use of pyrotechnic products, rescuers emphasize that it is necessary to purchase only certified products, checking the packaging for defects. The rescuer also showed how to properly install a fireworks installation, how to set it on fire, what should be a safe distance for the person near it and how to properly dispose of the product that did not work.
At the same time, in the conditions of armed conflict in the east of the country, the experts of the State Emergency Service recommend not to use batons or fireworks out of respect for the people who took part in the fighting.
During the practical part of the event, the firefighters demonstrated how quickly not only the Christmas tree can ignite, but also the entire room in case of ignoring elementary fire rules and what safety precautions should be taken when installing fireworks and fireworks. Representatives of the country's leading TV channels eagerly filmed a burning makeshift room and charred branches of a Christmas tree that burned to the ground in a matter of minutes. Just one faulty heater nearby, a poor-quality electric garland or an old extension cord is enough - and the holiday will end in tragedy. And all because of ignoring the rules of fire safety.
It is this opinion that the specialists of the Rescue Service seek to convey to citizens. And according to good tradition, journalists have been helping them in this for several years.
