Theft of assets of Arkada Bank for UAH 72 million — members of the criminal group headed by a top manager will stand trial

Among the accused are the ex-chairman of the board and eight of his accomplices - bank employees and heads of commercial structures. They can face from seven to twelve years in prison.

As established by employees of the Department of Strategic Investigations in the city of Kiev and the Department of Investigation of Particularly Serious Crimes of the Metropolitan Police, he developed a scheme for appropriating funds to finance the construction of the Eureka and Patriotika residential complexes, the manager of which was the bank, the former chairman of the bank's board. To implement it, he engaged eight more accomplices — officials of financial institutions and commercial structures.

By issuing fictitious loans - repayment of bills in the interests of persons directly related to the shareholders of the bank - UAH 50 million was withdrawn from the fund. These funds belonged to individuals and legal entities that invested in the construction of complexes. Also, under the guise of lending to the company on the collateral of non-existent property, another UAH 22 million was withdrawn from the bank's assets.

Thus, the actions of the members of the criminal group caused losses totaling UAH 72 million.

At present, in agreement with the Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office, the police have sent indictments against 9 people to the court. They incriminate the commission of criminal offenses provided for in part 5 of article 191 and part 5 of article 27 part 5 of article. 191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

For the squandering of bank deposits, including funds of investors in housing construction, offenders may face punishment in the form of imprisonment for a period of seven to twelve years with deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for a period of up to three years and with confiscation property.
