Today, October 1, the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Denis Monastyrsky in Luhansk region inspected the recently erected section of the Ukrainian-Russian border in the area of responsibility of the Luhansk border detachment in the village. Rozypne, Troitske border guard department.

The Minister got acquainted with the engineering facilities and the system of protection of state borders. The newest integrated border management system has already been installed on this site. This is a whole complex of protective engineering structures: an anti-transport ditch and a shaft, a control and track strip, a rockery road, a barrier fence with barbed wire and an intelligent video surveillance system on 15 observation towers, each of which covers 10 km of the state border. All-weather cameras, touch, vibration and thermal imaging devices effectively counteract intruders: they capture the smallest details around the clock at any time of the year and transmit a signal to border outfits for quick response. The signal is fixed and preceded by fiber optic, vibration, thermal imaging systems.

The interior minister said the system is capable of countering potential invasion attempts, subversive infiltration, illegal migration and smuggling.

“We are different now than we were eight years ago. The state will make every effort and finances to finally equip sections of the border with Russia and Belarus. Next year should be a “major border construction”. These are engineering structures made by specialists, and in general a new intellectual border, which will allow border guards to 100% control the borders of our country. In addition, the Ministry of Internal Affairs will focus on ensuring good service conditions. Including a decent level of payment for personnel.

I know there is a shortage of personnel. But we will work with these problems. The border service will be stronger, the border will be stronger, which means that the whole of Ukraine will be stronger,” said Denis Monastyrsky.

The head of the law enforcement agency stressed that 17 billion hryvnias are needed to fully equip the borders. The Ministry of Internal Affairs has already appealed to the Government with a demand to put these figures in the 2022 budget.

“Today I saw a completely different level of border arrangement. It is an intellectual frontier that requires minimal human intervention. And even from Kiev you can track violations of the boundaries of the state. Offences at the Troitsky site have been reduced due to the intelligent system. The site with a length of more than 100 kilometers is already equipped. But we still have thousands of kilometers of unadjusted border,” said Denis Monastyrsky.

This is especially true in the face of new migration challenges caused by the crisis in Afghanistan and Belarus's actions against its EU neighbors: Poland and the Baltic countries. So, recently Ukraine handed over to Lithuania a humanitarian cargo - 38 tons of barbed wire.

The head of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine Serhiy Deineko noted that work on border arrangement is ongoing.

“This year we plan to put into operation half of the already completed section of the Kharkiv border patrol. Next year, it is planned to carry out engineering works on the sites of Sumy and Luhansk detachments in order to fully protect the border with Russia,” he said.

The length of the border with the Russian Federation on land is 1974 km, of which 409 km of Donetsk and Luhansk regions Ukraine temporarily does not control.

The Minister of Internal Affairs also awarded the border guards of the Luhansk border detachment. The servicemen received the Order of “Danylo Halytsky”, the Medal “For Military Service to Ukraine”, the Medal “Defender of the Fatherland”, as well as certificates from the Verkhovna Rada and badges.

Those present honored with a minute of silence all the border guards of the Luhansk detachment who died during the service. Since 2014 alone, 14 soldiers of this unit have been killed, 95 have been injured.
