With the beginning of the military aggression of the Russian-occupation forces in the east of Ukraine in 2014 and until now, the designated bodies of the military administration of territorial administrations, military units and units of the National Guard of Ukraine perform combat (special) tasks as part of the grouping of forces and means of the anti-terrorist operation (since April 30, 2018 — Operation Unification Joint Forces) on the territory of Donetsk and Luhansk regions. The struggle for territorial integrity is not without loss...

The project was created for the Day of Remembrance of the Defenders of Ukraine who died in the struggle for independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.

The names of the dead are forever included in the lists of military units in which they served. And their names are listed in the Memory Book of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine and engraved on commemorative plates on Solomenskaya Square in the capital.

And on every occasion, the leadership of the state shows care and indifference to the soldiers who have been wounded and to the families who will now never be able to see their own sons, sisters, brothers, fathers, husbands or wives.

For the leadership of the National Guard, commemorating and supporting the families of dead or wounded soldiers of the NGU is one of the priority areas of work that needs to be focused on. No one is forgotten, and their exploits have the price of Ukraine's freedom.

The name as a symbol of eternity

Streets, championships and military units are named in their honor, memorial plaques, monuments and obelisks are opened.

This is the undoubted formation of the history of the struggle for the right to freedom, it is the recognition of the best features of the warrior, their contribution to the independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine.

In 2021, one street, one educational institution were named in honor of the dead servicemen, three memorial plaques, two monuments and obelisks, two Memorial stelae and two expositions, the name of the deceased was assigned to one military unit of the NGU.

One serviceman in the locality of his former residence is given the title of “Honorary Citizen” (posthumously).

For all the years of the war, 68 streets and alleys were named in their honor, 210 memorial plaques were opened, 47 soldiers received the title of “Honorary Citizen”, nine secondary schools, ten Alleys of Remembrance and three public squares, 35 memorials, 18 stelae, 45 obelisks, busts were opened, murals and monuments throughout Ukraine remind the people of the struggle of heroes for our freedom to be Ukrainians.

Reward is recognition

By order of the commander of the National Guard of Ukraine for exemplary performance of official duty, impeccable conscientious service, devotion to the Military Oath and the Ukrainian people in difficult conditions of threat to life and health, high professional skill for all years 208 servicemen of the National Guard of Ukraine who died during the performance of official duties, awarded the badge “For Valorous Service” (posthumously).

Last year, Sergeant Sergei Mikhalchuk was awarded the title “Hero of Ukraine” with the award of the Order of the Golden Star (posthumously).

And from now on, in the ranks of the heavenly soldiers of the National Guard, who made a significant contribution to the protection of the borders of the state, selflessly performed their military and civil duty to the last, — 5 Heroes of Ukraine.

Unfortunately, it is up to relatives to receive this recognition...

Always in touch

It is difficult to come to terms with the loss of a loved one, but it is even more difficult if you realize that the death was unjustified, senseless and unappreciated. Therefore, in order to ensure that the families of the dead always feel care and support, representatives of the National Guard invite family members of the dead or injured on the occasion of celebrations or significant events.

They do not forget about children who receive gifts from the management of the department and humanitarian assistance collected by fellow guards or volunteers (Ukrainian and from partner countries).

Some of the families after the loss of their father, son, husband, who served in the National Guard of Ukraine, have remained supported and need special care or qualified advice. A considerable number of families are in a difficult financial situation or seek to perpetuate the history of their native hero.

For this purpose, on the initiative of the General Directorate and members of the families of the deceased servicemen, a Committee was created to promote the social protection of members of the families of servicemen who died during the Anti-Terrorist Operation, Operation of the Joint Forces and in the performance of official duties.

The Committee actively implements measures aimed at the social and legal protection of legitimate interests and social rehabilitation of family members of servicemen who died (disappeared), died during the ATO and the PLO, the protection of its citizens during the performance of other tasks.

The Committee also organizes work on registration and distribution of social cards “Ukrainians Together” among family members of servicemen who died in the line of duty.
