Appropriation of funds for the repair of the South Bridge of the capital: police conducted a number of searches
The total amount of the contract was 148 million hryvnias. The funds were intended for major repairs of the deformation joints of the bridge crossing. The final amount of losses is established.
Operatives of the Directorate of Strategic Investigations in the city of Kiev together with the investigators of the Podolsk Department of the Kyiv Police exposed the scheme of appropriation of budget funds in particularly large amounts.
It was established that the officials of the municipal enterprise of the capital and the private enterprise colluded and entered false information into the reporting documentation regarding the volume of completed contracting work on the South Bridge of Kyiv and the cost of building materials.
On December 14, police conducted a series of searches in order to identify and seize documents that may indicate illegal activities of officials of municipal and private enterprises. The amount of damage caused will be determined after the examinations.
Criminal proceedings are opened under Part 5 of Art. 191 (Appropriation, embezzlement of property or possession of it by abuse of official position) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction of the article provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment for a term of 7 to 12 years with deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for a period of up to three years and with confiscation of property. The procedural guidance in the pre-trial investigation is carried out by the Podolsk District Prosecutor's Office of the city of Kyiv.
