Border guards in Izmail exposed a large-scale scheme of illegal movement of tobacco products to EU countries
Dealers planned to ship cigarettes to EU countries by barge, packing them in the middle of bags with “table salt”. A cigarette worth 27 million hryvnias was found.
The scheme of movement of tobacco products to the EU countries was exposed by the State Border Guard Service during a joint special operation with SBI employees to combat the illegal trafficking of tobacco products.
During searches at the warehouse of one of the enterprises in Izmail, in the Odessa region, law enforcement officers found about 3 thousand boxes of cigarettes, the estimated value of which is 27 million hryvnias. The tobacco products were already ready for shipment.
Currently, the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, together with the SBI and SBU investigators under the procedural guidance of the Odessa Regional Prosecutor's Office, are conducting activities to document illegal activities at warehouses in the city. Izmail of the Odessa region, where goods prepared for illegal movement abroad were accumulated.
The final amount of smuggled products to be seized will be determined by the results of the search.
It should be noted that this may be one of the largest attempts of illegal movement of cigarettes across the border, uncovered by the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine in cooperation with interacting law enforcement agencies.
