Yesterday, the border guards of the Mukachevo detachment, together with their colleagues from Hungary, conducted the first joint patrol this year.

It should be noted that joint patrols of the Ukrainian-Hungarian border have been suspended since March last year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The patrol of the Ukrainian-Hungarian border yesterday was carried out on the territory of Hungary opposite the area of responsibility of the border service department “Luzhanka”. It was attended by a border guard and border guard of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine and police officers of Hungary.

The decision to resume such patrols was made bilaterally. Note that only law enforcement officers who have been vaccinated against coronavirus are allowed to patrol.

Recall that joint patrols of the Ukrainian-Hungarian border by the border guards of Ukraine and Hungary started in 2014. Such patrols are carried out both on the territory of Ukraine and on the territory of Hungary. Patrols participating in joint patrolling in the territory of the State of the other Party shall patrol in official uniform without weapons and special means.

Joint protection of the state border makes it possible to more effectively counteract illegal activities at the border, and if attempts to transport illegal migrants or the movement of smuggled goods are detected, act more quickly to stop them.

For reference:

The protocol between the Administration of the State Border Service of Ukraine and the Hungarian Police on joint patrolling of the Ukrainian-Hungarian state border was signed on October 29, 2013.
