Border guards of Ukraine and Lithuania agreed on cooperation of operational units in the fight against cross-border crime
A meeting of Ukrainian and Lithuanian border guards on the exchange of experience and organization of cooperation of operational units is being held in Kyiv.
During the visit of the delegation of the State Border Protection Service under the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania to the Administration of the State Border Service of Ukraine, the parties discussed the current risks and threats that take place on the Ukrainian and Lithuanian state borders. The participants of the meeting discussed how to counter existing and projected security challenges and agreed on the interaction of operational units and the exchange of information to more effectively counter cross-border crime.
“We discuss issues of interaction, exchange of work experience. The issues that concern both Ukraine and Lithuania are the same. These are problems related to illegal migration, smuggling, human traffic, smuggling of drugs and so on,” said Major General Yuriy Zuzhko, Director of the Department of Operational and Search Activities of the Administration of the State Border Service of Ukraine during the meeting.
The head of the Criminal Investigation Department of the State Border Protection Service of Lithuania Donatas Shkarnulis, stressed the relevance of this meeting for the border services of the two countries. “At the moment, Lithuania faces a hybrid threat on the border with the Republic of Belarus. And here we have the opportunity to share our experience in dealing with this threat,” he said.
