Border guards blocked international human trafficking channel
Operatives of the Odessa border patrol, together with other law enforcement officers, stopped the activities of the international human trafficking channel.
The illegal scheme consisted in the fact that the attacker recruited Ukrainian sailors who had problems with permits and were in a difficult situation. The accused of the criminal scheme promised to solve the “issue” of arranging them for high-paying work on ships sailing long distances abroad. Eventually, the place of work for these sailors became yachts engaged in “tourist tours” for illegal migrants from West Asia to Greece and Italy. In addition, the victims of illegal activities were not only sailors, but also other citizens who did not have any skills in navigation.
As a result, the majority of Ukrainian sailors instead of earning substantial earnings received long prison terms in EU countries, and a significant number of illegal migrants died in the Mediterranean Sea.
According to operational information, the human trafficking channel was organized by a native of Kherson region together with accomplices from abroad. For each Ukrainian recruited, the criminal received 2 thousand US dollars.
The operatives documented the facts of recruitment of our citizens for the purpose of engaging in illegal activities. In addition, authorized searches were carried out in the man's residence.
At present, the accused of the criminal scheme has been detained and informed of the suspicion under Part 2 of Art. 149 “Trafficking in human beings” of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
The operation to expose the international channel of human trafficking was carried out by border guards together with representatives of the National Police under the procedural guidance of the Malinovsk District Prosecutor's Office of the city. Odessa.
