The Border Helicopter Conquered the Ukrainian Carpathians
Ukrainian border guards on Airbus Helicopter H125 began flying over the Carpathians. Mountainous crew training continues, which is combined with border monitoring
Training flights of the flight staff of Kharkiv and Odessa separate aviation squadrons of the State Border Guard Service take place in the Carpathians. Border guards get acquainted with the specifics of the application of the new H125 helicopters in the mountains under the guidance of William Pascu, a French instructor, representative of the manufacturer “AIRBUS”.
The other day, the participants of the training carried out aerial monitoring of the border with Romania, and also flew around the highest peak of Ukraine - Mount Hoverlu. It is worth emphasizing that it was the Airbus H125 that set the world record for landing and takeoff. In 2005, a helicopter landed at an altitude of 8,848 meters on the highest peak of the globe, Mount Everest. Therefore, our Carpathians are absolutely comfortable for this helicopter, because the H125 maintains high performance in various extreme conditions, in particular, in the heat and in the highlands.
“The H125 helicopter is considered the best in the world to perform flights, particularly in mountainous terrain. It is very powerful, very maneuverable and allows landing in the most difficult conditions,” said the chief of staff of the Kharkiv separate aviation squadron Sergey Samilenko.
Currently, border guards use two H125 helicopters from the French company Airbus Helicopter, which arrived in Ukraine in January 2020. In the near future, new Airbus H125 helicopters should arrive from France, which will replenish the air fleet of Ukrainian border guards. And for these rotorcraft, crews are already ready that will be able to effectively carry out the tasks of aerial monitoring of the border, both in flat and in mountainous areas.
The H125 available in the State Border Guard Service for a year and a half have confirmed their effectiveness and economy. They have already flown more than 700 hours and consume significantly less fuel.
It should be noted that at present, the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine continues active training of specialists who can pilot Airbus H125, as well as mechanics who are able to ensure proper technical condition of the helicopters for their effective operation.
By the end of this year, the Ukrainian border agency expects to receive up to ten more Airbus H125 helicopters. It is planned that these machines will arrive already with the necessary optical-electronic equipment to monitor the state border and the coast of border reservoirs.
As part of the implementation of the Agreement between the Government of Ukraine and the Government of the French Republic on official support in the establishment of the Unified Aviation Security and Civil Protection System in Ukraine (ratified by the Law of Ukraine of 07.06.2018 №2452-VIII), the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine is to receive a total of 24 new Airbus Helicopter H125 helicopters.
In view of the prospect of expanding the air fleet, the State Border Guard Service invites pilots who are willing and able to guard the Ukrainian border with modern and reliable helicopters.
