Preliminary data on the causes of the fire in the intensive care unit of the Kosiv hospital
The State Emergency Service provided preliminary data on the investigation of the tragedy at the Kosiv hospital. The main reason is a gross violation of fire safety rules. The actions of man, his ignorance of the elementary laws of physics and disregard for safety rules, led to irreparable losses in the premises of the medical institution.
So, in intensive care, 5 oxygen concentrators worked simultaneously, which created conditions for oxygen saturation of the air. After the death of one of the patients of the hospital from Сovid-19, an employee of the institution put a candle. From the contact of open fire with oxygen saturated air in the intensive care unit, medical equipment, cloth and other items instantly took over. In such conditions, the rapid spread of fire could not be avoided.
For such a mistake, both the people and the state had to pay a very high price — three people died. Currently, doctors are fighting for the lives of those injured, and the SNS will conduct urgent inspections of hospitals for fire safety status.
The State Emergency Service of Ukraine urges the heads of medical institutions to strictly prohibit the use of open fire in intensive care units and near oxygen equipment.
