Every year on April 4, the world celebrates the International Day of Education on Mine Safety and Assistance in Mine Safety, launched by the United Nations General Assembly to raise public awareness of the dangers posed by mines and explosive remnants of war.

This problem is extremely relevant for Ukraine, since for more than 5 years fighting has been waged in the territories occupied by the neighboring aggressor country of Ukraine.

For the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, cleaning the territory of the state from explosive objects of past wars is today one of the priority tasks. Also, since 2014, the pyrotechnics of the State Emergency Service have been carrying out work to detect and defuse explosive objects contaminated by Donetsk and Luhansk regions as a result of enemy shelling in eastern Ukraine.

It is necessary to work in extremely difficult conditions of total mining of territories. Thus, since the beginning of the engagement (from 06.07.2014), the fire technicians of the State Emergency Service on the territory of Donetsk and Luhansk regions have detected, removed and neutralized about 220 thousand units of GNP, inspected areas of territories with a total area of more than 32 thousand hectares, as well as the water area of water bodies with a total area of 101 hectares.

In total, during the past year, the pyrotechnic units of the SNS seized and destroyed more than 70 thousand explosive objects, including more than 2 thousand 100 aircraft bombs.

100 pyrotechnic calculations of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine with more than 600 personnel fearlessly perform work on land mining from explosive objects in Ukraine, more than 100 people daily perform tasks for demining the territory of Donetsk and Luhansk regions. They are the heroes of today who, risking their own lives, save others from the deadly danger of carrying ammunition.

Every year more and more people are injured by the action of GNP. In particular, we must pay attention to the problem of protecting children from dangerous finds, which are often disguised as household items, children's toys, etc. That is why rescuers constantly conduct informational and explanatory work with citizens, teach them the rules of behavior when detecting suspicious objects, and also visit preschool and educational institutions in all regions of the state, telling children about the basics of mine safety.
