Police find a suspect in vandalism at a cemetery near Zhytomyr

The police reasonably suspect a 19-year-old resident of the Stanishiv community of involvement in the damage of almost one and a half dozen monuments in the village cemetery. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.

Recall, on January 1, the Zhytomyr Regional Police Department received a report of vandalism at the cemetery in the village. Slobody-Selets. During the inspection, law enforcement officers recorded damage to granite monuments at the burial sites of 14 people. Trace information and other physical evidence were also discovered and recovered.

Information about the event was entered into the Unified Register of Pretrial Investigations under Art. 297 (Burial over a grave, other place of burial or over the body of the deceased) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. Law enforcement officers carried out priority investigative actions to clarify the circumstances, including conducting a yard bypass of villagers and checking persons prone to offenses. As a result, a 19-year-old local resident was exposed to the vandalism. The new moon admitted his guilt and told about the circumstances.

“The boy lives near the cemetery with his parents. According to the collected evidence, he often goes to the cemetery for sweets. According to relatives, the couple has mental health defects. As part of the further investigation of criminal proceedings, a forensic psychiatric examination will be appointed, according to the results of which the issue of liability will be resolved,” said Deputy Chief of Police Department No. 1 of Zhytomyr RUP Volodymyr Kolyadich.

According to the current legislation, such illegal acts are punishable by a fine - six months of arrest, restriction or imprisonment for up to 3 years.
