This was announced by the Head of the National Police today, August 3, during a briefing on the progress of the investigation into the disappearance and death of a Belarusian activist in Kyiv.

The head of the National Police Igor Klymenko said that immediately after the report of the disappearance of Vitaly Shishov, at about 15 o'clock, an investigative and operational team, dog handlers left his place of residence, as well as National Guard servicemen, concerned people, volunteers, joined the search:

“The search continued until 22 o'clock, a large forest area, difficult to pass. With darkness, they decided to continue the search from 5 in the morning. During the night, the entire territory of the massif was divided into squares, additional police and NGU officers were involved, and at about 7.40 the body of Vitaliy was found. Yesterday, August 2, after the statement, the housemates opened criminal proceedings under Part 1 of Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — this is intentional murder.”

The head of the National Police said that currently the police are carrying out a complex of measures to establish all the circumstances of the death of the activist, all video recordings from cameras are being removed, possible eyewitnesses and witnesses of the incident are being questioned.

“Investigators are checking possible versions of the crime, in particular - committing suicide or committing premeditated murder with imitation of suicide. This is at the moment. We do not deny that there will be other versions during the investigation. All this can be learned accordingly after interviewing witnesses, after analyzing video cameras, conducting investigative experiments and a number of examinations: forensic, histological, tracological, medico-forensic and molecular-genetic. In addition, we study in parallel Vitaliy's way of life, his social activities,” Igor Klymenko said.

He also added that bodily injuries on the body of the deceased - abrasions on the face and knee - are, as experts note, typical of a one-time fall.

The pre-trial investigation is ongoing. Further information will be provided after the relevant examinations have been carried out.

Recall, earlier it was reported that Vitaly Shishova, a citizen of the Republic of Belarus, who disappeared yesterday in Kiev, was found hanged today in one of the Kiev parks, not far from his place of residence.
