The police of the Kiev region exposed a criminal group of hijackers of elite foreign cars and a database of disassembly of stolen cars
So, in March 2021, attackers took possession of a Toyota car, which belonged to a resident of the village of Belogorodka, and in April in the village of Sofievskaya Borschagovka they also stole a Lexus car. Both cars were 2020 releases.
During the operational-search measures, the police established that two residents of the Buchansky district together with a 39-year-old resident of Zhytomyr region stole premium cars using special scanners, then diverted vehicles into sump tanks and interrupted the numbers. Subsequently, the attackers sold cars outside the Kiev region, but most often they were given for disassembly.
The organizer of the group - a 31-year-old resident of Belogorodka - a person well known in criminal circles. The man has previously been convicted of theft and drug trafficking. His henchman, a 28-year-old resident of the village of Sarny - previously convicted of robbery, robbery, hooliganism. In the commission of the crime, the defendants of the criminal group went out in pairs and carefully disguised themselves. Before the carjackings, they chose the object of the crime for a long time, planned the escape routes, and also ordered special equipment and the manufacture of keys for specific foreign cars. Everything was carried out with reinforced methods of conspiracy and, even, special equipment was transferred by a non-contact method.
In order to commit the crime, the attackers traveled in a black foreign car “Hyundai Santa Fe”, pre-removing the numbers so that they would not be caught by CCTV cameras.
Police officers located the location of the stolen cars and conducted sanctioned searches of the places of residence of the defendants, which resulted in the seizure of special means for carjacking, a large number of government license plates, driver's licenses and vehicle registration certificates, as well as bank cards.
“Over the past 5 years, thanks to the effective activities of the police, the number of car thefts in Kyiv region has decreased almost 7 times from 983 in 2016 to 127 thefts this year, more than 100 of which have already been disclosed. During this period, the activities of more than 20 groups of car thieves, including organized ones, have been exposed and stopped,” Andriy Nevitov noted.
Law enforcement officers under the procedural guidance of the local prosecutor's office informed the attackers about the suspicion under Part 3 of Article 289 (Illegal possession of vehicles) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction of the article provides for imprisonment for a term of eight to twelve years with or without confiscation of property.
Currently, the police are also checking the involvement of these individuals in the commission of similar crimes in the capital and other regions of Ukraine.
