Police of Dnipropetrovsk region exposed “farm” for cryptocurrency mining
According to the results of the search, law enforcement officers seized special technical equipment for a total amount of about 4 million hryvnias.
On December 3, officers of the police department №3 (Pokrovske) of the Kryvyi Rih district police department conducted an authorized search and discovered a cryptocurrency mining farm that operated on the territory of one of the municipal enterprises of the city.
To minimize their own costs during mining, attackers made illegal connections to utility power grids.
At the moment, the amount of damage caused to the state is established.
As investigators found out, the attackers set up a mining farm on a non-working backup substation of one of the municipal enterprises of the city, where access for ordinary citizens was limited.
During a search of the premises, the police discovered a number of mining farms with video cards and motherboards, an administrator laptop, hard drives, flash drives, routers and power supplies with which the generation was carried out.
In the actions of malefactors there are signs of a criminal offense provided for in Art. 191 (appropriation, embezzlement of property or possession of it by abuse of official position) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The maximum sanction of the article provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment for a term of seven to twelve years with deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for a term of up to three years and with confiscation of property.
Currently, law enforcement officers are conducting investigative measures aimed at identifying persons involved in the organization of criminal activities on the territory of the municipal enterprise.
The investigation is ongoing.
