Police detained members of a criminal group for armed robberies and torture of people
This was announced by the Head of the National Police of Ukraine Igor Klymenko. With firearms and cold weapons, the attackers carried out brutal attacks on both residents' houses and office premises. Demanding money and valuables, the victims were tied up and tortured, in particular with an iron. Previously, the total amount of losses is more than 200 thousand dollars. Today, May 20, the police detained three active members of the group on the Kyiv-Zhytomyr highway.
During the complex of operational-search activities, employees of the Strategic Investigation Department in Lviv region of the National Police exposed and documented the criminal activities of an organized group of persons.
The police established that residents of Lviv, Rivne and Ivano-Frankivsk regions organized a stable criminal group armed with firearms and cold weapons to systematically commit robbery attacks. The group, with a clear distribution of the roles of each participant, operated for a long time.
“This group committed a number of violent crimes on the territory of the state, worked quite hard and aggressively. During the crimes, they behaved quite brazenly, organized pogroms, tortured people, in particular with a hot iron, before that, tying tape to a chair,” Igor Klymenko said.
According to the head of the National Police, robberies were carried out both on private houses and on office premises of enterprises and institutions. Previously, offenders convicted of committing similar crimes on the territory of Ukraine had special physical training, carefully prepared and planned each crime.
“The group prepared their crimes carefully enough and then committed them according to the approved scenario. More than ten cars used in the commission of these crimes were burned after the robbery. Like all the physical evidence, which could then somehow lead to this group,” the head of the National Police said.
Members of the group studied the lifestyle of potential victims, their financial situation, behavior, relationships, being outside the home. All attacks were usually carried out in the evening or at night, with firearms and cold weapons, using specially purchased means to commit crimes.
So, in May of this year, a robbery was carried out on a private residence in Kharkiv. The members of the group tortured the victim with an iron and seized cash in the amount of 60,000 euros, 50,000 US dollars, gold products.
Currently, the group's involvement in several robbery attacks on the territory of Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, Zakarpattia and Kharkiv regions has been documented. Previously, the attackers seized more than 200 thousand dollars in cash and gold products. The exact amount of damage is currently being established.
Today, on May 20, on the Kyiv-Zhytomyr highway, the USR operatives in Lviv region, together with police officers of Kyiv and Kharkiv regions, with the involvement of the special unit KORD of the Kiev region police, detained three active participants of the criminal group.
Currently, investigative actions are underway, the issue of detaining group members is being resolved in accordance with Art. 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine and the delivery to them of a notice of suspicion of committing crimes provided for in Part 4 of Article 187 (Robbery) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. Offenders can face up to fifteen years in prison with confiscation of property.
Also, the police are currently checking the involvement of this group in the commission of other criminal offenses.
