Police officers detained on bribe an official of the Nikolaev regional department of the State Service of Food and Consumer Protection
The official demanded $2,000 in illegal benefits from a local businessman: for this money he promised not to interfere in business activities. To receive a bribe as an intermediary, he attracted his acquaintance.
Yesterday, April 13, operatives of the Department of Strategic Investigations in the Nikolaev area of the National Police, investigators of the regional police department under the procedural guidance of the Nikolaev regional prosecutor's office detained the mediator after she received the agreed amount of illegal profit. The money was withdrawn on the spot.
In the order of Art. 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine also detained the main defendant — one of the officials of the Main Department of the State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection in the Nikolaev area.
Currently, the issue of notifying him of suspicion under Part 3 of Art. 368 (acceptance of an offer, promise or receipt of an illegal benefit by an official) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine is being resolved.
The defendant may face punishment in the form of imprisonment for a term of five to ten years with deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for a period of up to three years, with confiscation of property. Investigative and operational measures are ongoing.
