Police have exposed a man who sold information from the databases of tax and customs services
At the place of residence and in the “office” of the defendant, law enforcement officers seized telephones and computer equipment with databases of government institutions and contacts of potential buyers. The “services” of the attacker cost up to five thousand hryvnias.
Employees of the Department for the Protection of Public Interest and the State, together with the investigators of the Main Investigation Department of the National Police, exposed a 36-year-old man who was selling information with limited access. It has already been established that the defendant is a former employee of the customs service of the Kiev region. Using the connections he had at customs, the attacker sold the databases of customs and tax services through the web page of electronic ads. Such services cost from 300 hryvnia to five thousand hryvnias.
Operatives established the place of residence of the defendant, as well as the location of his “office”. During the authorized searches, the police seized computer equipment with databases. Also removed were mobile phones, from which he communicated with potential buyers through messengers. Currently, a circle of persons who illegally acquired information with limited access, as well as accomplices who provided the attacker with these databases, is established.
Pre-trial investigation in criminal proceedings initiated under Art. 361 -2 (Unauthorized interference in the operation of electronic computing machines (computers)) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, continues. The sanction of the article provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment for up to six years with deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for a period of up to three years. At the moment, the issue of declaring the defendant a suspect is being resolved.
Pre-trial investigation in criminal proceedings is carried out under the procedural guidance of prosecutors of the Office of the Prosecutor General.
