Police shut down 76 gambling establishments
The results of the exercises were reported in the Department of Strategic Investigations of the National Police of Ukraine.
During the past week, the operators of the strategic investigations and the investigative units of the police stopped the operation of 76 gambling establishments. All of them worked without proper licenses and their work was carefully disguised. Entrance was only allowed to verified customers and by prior call. In some institutions there was a code access system — passwords changed at certain intervals.
According to the facts of illegal activities for the organization or conduct of gambling, lotteries (Article 203-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine), 14 criminal proceedings have been opened and already 4 persons have received suspicions. From the underground gambling establishments, the police seized 976 units of gambling equipment with a total value of more than two million hryvnias and 117 thousand UAH of cash received from bets. The largest number of such establishments was found in the Dnipropetrovsk region - 14, Kiev region - 13 and in the city of Kiev -11.
We appeal to citizens with a request to report on the operation of illegal gambling establishments to the special line “102” or to the regional departments of strategic investigations.
For illegal activities in the organization or conduct of gambling, lotteries, the law provides for liability - a fine of 170 to 680 thousand hryvnias, with deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for a period of one year.
