Police officers of the Dnipropetrovsk region sent to the court materials regarding the criminal group that dragged people into labor slavery
The victims were forced to perform heavy animal care work, severely punished and did not pay money for the work done.
During the pre-trial investigation, the police departments of the migration police of the GUNP in the Dnipropetrovsk region established that the group consisted of a woman and four men. A 62-year-old resident of Dnipro was engaged in recruiting and transporting people to a livestock farm. The attacker selected residents of the Dnipropetrovsk region who were in difficult financial condition, while promising them a high salary and decent working conditions. When people agreed, they were transported to a farm in Magdalinovsky district of Dnipropetrovsk region. There they did the hard work of caring for animals, lived in barracks and worked hard. At the same time, the workers were almost not fed, and in case of disobedience, they were beaten. The victims did not receive the promised money for work.
In addition to the Dnieper resident, who was engaged in recruiting people, the group included four men who monitored the retention of “workers” and monitored their work. Among them is a citizen of Azerbaijan, who has a temporary residence permit in Ukraine, valid until May 14 of this year.
During the year, during the investigation, law enforcement officers identified the victims, collected the evidence base and sent criminal proceedings with an indictment to the court. There were sanctioned searches at the places of residence of all defendants and places of illegal detention of people. A woman and four men were handed a report of suspicion under Part 2 of Art. 149 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (trafficking in human beings). In April 2021, criminal proceedings with an indictment against five people were sent to court. Suspects face from 5 to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property.
