Chernihiv region: successful ambush on pseudo-police robbers
Yesterday, the officers of the Criminal Investigation Department and the Investigative Department of the Police of the Region under the procedural guidance of the Chernihiv Regional Prosecutor's Office detained two men who tried to commit robbery disguised as police officers.
In August this year, the police received operational information about the preparation of a robbery attack with the use of weapons on a 74-year-old resident of Nosivka.
During the operational and investigative measures, the police identified the persons who were going to commit the crime — these are two residents of the Odessa region, aged 38 and 49 years. Realizing criminal intent, the men wore clothes visually similar to a police uniform (without chevrons).
On October 6, with the support of KORD, the police detained armed intruders who broke into the pensioner's house.
The attackers were placed in temporary detention in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.
On the fact of the crime, the investigative department of the regional police opened proceedings under part 4 of Article 187 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (robbery committed by an organized group). Its maximum sanction provides for imprisonment for up to fifteen years with confiscation of property.
Now the police are checking detainees for involvement in similar crimes on the territory of Ukraine. In the near future, they will be notified of the suspicion and a precautionary measure selected.
A pre-trial investigation is currently underway.
