Police special operation in Odessa region: released two foreigners who were kidnapped, held hostage and tortured for several months

After the kidnapping of a Greek citizen and his nephew, the members of the criminal group demanded money and transfer to property ownership. After two months of illegal imprisonment, torture, threats of murder and psychological pressure on the victims, the suspects seized 600,000 euros and six apartments in elite districts of Odessa. Today, April 13, the police released the hostages and detained the two defendants.

It was established that in February 2021, a criminal group illegally deprived a 55-year-old Greek citizen and his 27-year-old nephew in order to seize their property.

It was established that within two months the perpetrators tortured the victims, in particular with an iron, threatened with firearms, and exerted physical and psychological pressure. Under torture, the victim handed over 600 thousand euros and the ownership of six apartments in elite districts of Odessa to the members of the criminal group.

During the investigative and operational measures, the police established the place of detention of victims and persons who may be involved in the crime.

Today, April 13, employees of the Directorate of Migration Police of Odessa region, together with criminal investigators, investigators and with the involvement of special police fighters under the procedural guidance of the prosecutor's office, released the victims.

Police have now detained two suspects of kidnapping and torturing the victims. At the same time, the active phase of implementation continues, investigative actions are being carried out, including searches. The circle of all persons involved in the crime is established, their actions will be given a legal assessment.
