Events of spring 2014 that have become history
April 8 marks the seventh anniversary of the liberation of the Kharkiv Regional State Administration from separatists. Participants of those events, management and cadets of the university gathered on the square of Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs. They honored the memory of all those who gave their lives for Ukraine and remembered the events of spring 2014.
As noted by the rector of the university, police general of the third rank Valery Sokurenko, “loyalty to the Oath and official duty, courage and heroism helped the defenders of Ukrainian independence to resist. The anti-terrorist operation was led by the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Arsen Avakov. Thanks to his decisive actions, exceptional personal qualities as a leader, a devoted patriot, a citizen of his country, Kharkiv has survived.”
Among those who defended the Kharkiv Regional State Administration were representatives of the Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs — doctors and candidates of sciences, professors and associate professors, vice-rectors, employees of structural units, officers of the course link headed by, at that time the rector of the university, Colonel-General Militia by Sergey Husarov. Addressing those present, he recalled what was the situation in Kharkiv and Ukraine, what were the actions and decisions of the local and central authorities of the state, the mood in society. He also remembered the memorable night from April 7 to 8. “Kharkiv residents have convincingly demonstrated that they are Ukrainians and want to live in their state. Everyone understood that the fate of Ukraine was being decided, and we had to endure,” said Serhiy Gusarov. Broken windows, doors, smoky and shattered offices, mutilated furniture and office equipment — this is how Kharkiv residents saw the administration building this morning. This is how the enemy forces brazenly and cynically tried to turn Kharkiv into a gray area without a future — the Kharkiv People's Republic.
Sergey Girenko was a participant in those events. Today he is the deputy dean of the faculty No. 2 for educational and methodological work. “We protected our home, where children are born and raised, our parents live. We protected our future, our right to live in our state,” the deputy dean said.
Every year Kharkiv residents remember the events that became decisive in the history of our region, our state. We honor all those who, as part of the ATO/PLO, have defended and defended the eastern borders of Ukraine, they serve, ensuring peace and tranquility of citizens.
All participants of the commemorative events of 2014 were presented with the book of the Minister of Internal Affairs Arsen Avakov “2014. Moments of Kharkiv Spring”. This book is a living history: chronicles, facts, documents, direct speech, and also — analysis and philosophical understanding by the author of the processes that took place in Kharkiv and the state, reflections on the future of Ukraine and the fate of its people.
After the event, the video footage of that stormy night was reviewed — hard and indisputable evidence of events that had already become history.
Speaking on television in 2014, Sergey Gusarov stressed that Kharkiv citizens defend the unity and sovereignty of Ukraine, they want to live in their own state and there can be no other opinions on this matter: “The voice of students, cadets, educational and scientific community of Kharkiv for the future in Ukraine It needs to be heard all over the world.”
