There are 86 police teams to respond to domestic violence across Ukraine - Kateryna Pavlichenko

Today, November 25, Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Kateryna Pavlichenko took part in a briefing organized by the Ministry of Social Policy of Ukraine within the framework of the annual All-Ukrainian Action “16 Days Against Violence”.

She thanked the public and international partners for the formation in society of intolerance to any manifestations of violence. Ekaterina Pavlichenko assured that preventing and countering manifestations of domestic violence is a priority in the activities of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

“The Ministry of Internal Affairs constantly focuses on the issue of the inevitability of punishment for offenders, the creation of effective mechanisms for the protection of victims. The institutional capacity of the department is constantly being strengthened. I note that the National Police constantly operate mobile response teams for cases of domestic violence. Today, there are 86 of them in operation throughout Ukraine. They work in 67 cities of the country, where there are no such units, other police representatives work,” the deputy minister said.

This year, in accordance with the new territorial structure, 44 full-time units (sectors) of combating domestic violence were created. Ekaterina Pavlichenko reported an increase in the number of appeals for domestic violence over the past year. In the last 10 months of work, the National Police received 267 thousand applications, which is 53% more than in the same period last year. The number of administrative protocols against domestic abusers increased by 50%. 15 percent more urgent injunctions were issued.

For reference: Every year in Ukraine, from November 25 to December 10, inclusive, the All-Ukrainian action “16 days against violence” is held. The purpose of the action is to draw public attention to the problems of overcoming domestic violence, child abuse, combating human trafficking and protecting women's rights.
