Suspected of murder of Armenian citizen - gang members who hid from the investigation are detained
In the autumn of 2019, the leader and defendants of an ethnic criminal group that committed serious and especially serious crimes were detained in Poltava. Subsequently, employees of the Department of Internal Security and the Main Investigation Department of the National Police established the involvement of the group in a premeditated murder on the territory of Armenia. After receiving the suspicion, the two defendants fled, hoping to avoid punishment.
In September 2019, employees of the Department of Internal Security and the Main Investigative Department of the National Police of Ukraine detained in Poltava the organizer of a powerful gang formation — Samvel Donetsk — and his closest accomplices.
With the assistance of the leadership of the National Police, offenders who for a long time avoided responsibility due to corrupt links in law enforcement agencies, were eventually criminalized the creation and participation in a criminal organization, extortion committed by an organized group with the cause of bodily harm, and hooliganism committed with the use of weapons. The court took the leader of the group into custody without the right to post bail, and the two gang members chose a preventive measure in the form of house arrest.
At the same time, DVB operatives and NPU CSU investigators established that the defendants were on international wanted for the murder of a man on the territory of the Republic of Armenia.
The motive for committing a serious crime was real estate. The leader of the gang demanded that the ex-husband of his roommate give up the apartment and re-register the ownership. Threats of physical assault ended in a murder in Yerevan: the assailants attacked the victim in the street at night and inflicted numerous knife wounds that became fatal.
On August 11, 2020, at the place of residence of two members of the group who were under house arrest, DVB operatives and CSU investigators, with the physical support of the fighters of the Rapid Response Department of the DVB of the NPU and the procedural guidance of the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine, conducted sanctioned searches and announced the suspects under paragraph 12 of Part 2 of Article 115 (Premeditated murder committed by a group of persons in advance) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
At the same time, suspicion of premeditated murder was handed over to the leader of the criminal organization, who was in a temporary detention center.
The attackers did not appear in court to elect the sanction, and on August 14, 2020 they were declared wanted. Hoping to avoid responsibility, the accomplices hid, following the rules of the conspiracy. However, as a result of operational-search and investigative measures, the location of their convoy was established. On April 13, 2021, the fugitives were detained in one of the rented hangars on the territory of Kiev.
The court sent the suspects to custody without the right to post bail. For committing premeditated murder, gang members face imprisonment for a term of ten to fifteen years or life imprisonment.
