Criminal Investigation agents of the National Police detained a criminal group for extorting non-existent debts from foreigners
It consisted of two people. The attackers threatened the victims, and when they refused to transfer money or did not pay the entire amount, they inflicted bodily harm.
During the operational-search activities, the employees of the Criminal Investigation Department of the National Police exposed two extortionists - natives of one of the countries of the Caucasus region. The attackers demanded non-existent debts from foreigners, as well as from stateless persons who are temporarily in the territory of the state.
The arrest of the defendants with the involvement of KORD fighters took place in the center of the capital - on Lesia Ukrainka Boulevard - immediately after the Turkish citizen, after beatings, threats to him and his family, handed the second part of the so-called “debt” to the extortionists.
Investigative actions are underway to establish all episodes and evidence of criminal activity of the defendants.
Detainees are notified of suspicion of committing an offense provided for in Part 2 of Art. 189 (Extortion) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. Today, the court will choose preventive measures for them. The attackers face up to seven years in prison.
The investigation is carried out by investigators of the Pechersk department of the Kiev police. Procedural guidance in criminal proceedings is carried out by the Pechersk District Prosecutor's Office.
