Operatives of Donetsk region detained a member of an organized criminal group who was under international investigation for 5 years
A resident of Pokrovsk, together with accomplices, committed a series of apartment thefts and thefts. In order to avoid criminal liability, in 2016 he left for the Russian Federation, where he has been hiding to this day. With the help of the department of international police cooperation through Interpol channels, criminal investigators established the location of the wanted man and extradited him to Ukraine.
The 30-year-old defendant was a member of the OZG, which operated on the territory of Selydovo and nearby settlements in 2015-2016. The objects of criminal raids were private homes, from where intruders stole jewelry and cash. The vehicles of the citizens did not lose sight of either. Currently, the involvement of members of the group in the commission of 12 episodes of property crimes has been proven.
Law enforcement officers established that the suspect, fearing punishment, left for a neighboring state, but the search was not stopped. The fugitive was declared a state and international wanted man.
Thanks to the department of international police cooperation, detectives received information that the man did not leave illegal activities and was convicted under the laws of another state for committing a property crime. Over the past three years, he served his sentence in the Rostov region.
After his imprisonment, the man was extradited to Ukraine through the checkpoint “Goptivka-Nekhoteyevka” of Kharkiv region. Instead of the expected freedom in the Donetsk region, he is awaiting a new imprisonment for previously committed crimes, provided for in Part 3 of Art. 289 (Illegal possession of a vehicle), Part 3, 5 of Art. 185 (Theft committed on a particularly large scale by an organized group) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
After crossing the checkpoint, Selydove operatives and the Criminal Investigation Department of Donetsk region police escorted the attacker to the temporary detention center in Mariupol. The question of choosing a precautionary measure for him is being resolved.
For the crimes committed, the defendant, as well as his former accomplices, faces up to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property.
