The Ministry of Internal Affairs strengthens the northern borders of Ukraine. Chronicles of the special border operation “Polissya”

On November 23, a joint special border operation “Polissya” began on the border with the Republic of Belarus. It is coordinated by the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine and is carried out jointly with the forces of the National Guard, the National Police, the Armed Forces and other reserves involved.

Prerequisites:

On November 8, the Belarusian authorities, with the support of armed border guards with dogs, sent a column of migrants to the border with Poland. Due to the significant influx of migrants, Poland urgently called in the Territorial Defense Forces to help the border guards. Migrants have repeatedly tried to attack Polish border guards.

On November 9, two large groups of migrants broke into Poland through the border fences. Some were able to return to Belarus.

On this day, during a speech in the Verkhovna Rada, Minister of Internal Affairs Denis Monastyrsky said that the Ministry of Internal Affairs together with other law enforcement agencies has developed a set of preventive measures to prevent provocations in areas of potential penetration of illegal migrants. It is about timely detection and neutralization of instigators, conductors, and other suspicious persons.

On November 18, a large group of migrants broke through the border near the village of Dubychi Tserkovni. About 100 people were detained. A one-year-old child died at the border, thus the number of victims increased to 12 people.

November 24 - First Deputy Head of the State Fiscal Service of Ukraine Volodymyr Nikiforenko announced that in order to respond to a possible complication of the situation together with interacting state structures, a joint special border operation was agreed and a corresponding plan was developed. And last night it officially started [about Operation Polissya].”

He added that its main task is to prevent illegal migrants from crossing the state border and entering Ukraine, and for this, coordination of actions of all forces involved is ensured.

On the same day, the First Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Yevhenii Yenin reported that within the framework of the joint special border operation “Polissya”, border guards are intensively deploying checkpoints.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs organized the work of coordination headquarters, combined their work at the central and regional levels. And in the district - coordination groups of management were formed - everything to make it easier and more efficient to manage the special operation, and the exchange of information took place instantly.

“We control the main roads that lead to the border. There will also be an inspection of bus stations and stations and we will carry out preventive measures in border settlements. We will not allow any artificial influences of the “fraternal” states on Ukraine!” he assured.

Reinforcements began to arrive at the border - 8,500 troops. Units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs began to use aviation, drones and other technical means of surveillance for patrolling and monitoring.

On the same day, tactical exercises began in different parts of the border. The units work out all scenarios of possible escalation of the migration crisis in border towns and villages.

The head of the National Police Igor Klymenko said that the fighters of the State Border Guard Service, the National Guard and the National Police began a complex of measures aimed at the coordination of forces to protect public order in the cities and districts bordering the Republic of Belarus.

“During this and next week, we will work out algorithms for possible actions of migrants, so it is important that law enforcement agencies are prepared for all possible scenarios,” Igor Klymenko said.

On November 25, as part of the operation in the border areas and on the border, uniforms with representatives of the National Guard and the National Police went into service, additional checkpoints were established and access roads to the border were patrolled. Aerial monitoring of the state border line is provided.

On November 26, almost two hundred migrants again stormed the Polish-Belarusian border. Polish police reported 217 attempts to illegally cross the border from Belarus.

The Ukrainian section of the border with Belarus is under reliable control. In its various sections, the units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs constantly conduct tactical training and training.
