Entrepreneurs charged with “tribute” - in Kharkov the members of the criminal group will stand trial
Organized the activities of the group by the founder of the public organization. Together with its members, they were engaged in extracting funds from entrepreneurs who provide services to the population in the removal of waste in the territory of the region.
The activities of the criminal group were exposed by the operatives of the Directorate of Strategic Investigations in the Kharkiv region and the investigators of the regional police department. As the police found out, such a “business” was organized by the founder of a local public organization. Covering the fight against arbitrariness and protecting the rights of citizens, together with other members, they paid tribute to local entrepreneurs.
For each departure of the car outside the city, entrepreneurs had to pay up to 200 hryvnia. In case of refusal, the defendants threatened entrepreneurs with physical abuse and hindered their activities.
On March 5, the organizer and one of the members of the group were detained immediately after receiving and distributing between them the next “tranche” - 18,000 UAH. In total, the attackers received UAH 60,000 from the sewers. The pre-trial investigation in criminal proceedings was completed.
The indictment in agreement with the Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor's Office in relation to three persons was sent to the court. The Organizer and his two accomplices are charged with committing a criminal offense provided for in Part 4 of Art. 189 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
For extortion, violators may face up to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property.
