Illegal sand mining worth 100 million hryvnias in Kyiv region: police exposed organized crime group

The estimated volume of illegally mined mineral is more than 500 thousand tons. During the investigation, law enforcement officers seized documents and seals that were used to compile them, as well as equipment for illegal sand extraction.

Investigators of the Main Investigative Department of the National Police of Ukraine carry out a pre-trial investigation in criminal proceedings concerning illegal mining of minerals. The police established that the organized criminal group illegally extracted sand from the reservoir of the cascade of lakes on the territory of the Fastiv district.

On the basis of the court decision, the investigators of the National Police and the operatives of the Strategic Investigation Department in the Kiev region inspected the land plots on which unauthorized sand mining was carried out. Law enforcement officers seized four dredges, trucks and excavators. In addition, law enforcement officers discovered documents and seals that were used to draw them up. Investigative actions took place with the participation of prosecutors of the Prosecutor General's Office.

The estimated volume of illegally mined sand is more than 500 thousand tons. The amount of damages caused to the state is 100 million hryvnia.Pre-trial investigation in criminal proceedings, initiated under Art
. 240 (Violation of the rules for the protection or use of subsoil, illegal extraction of minerals) and Art. 364 (Abuse of power or official position) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, continues. Violators face punishment in the form of imprisonment for up to eight years.
