The National Police exposed a criminal group in the sale of counterfeit goods through the platform of the public procurement system of Ukraine
The defendants produced and sold counterfeit crop seeds. Among the victims are state-owned enterprises, national universities and international companies.
The criminal offense was exposed by employees of the Cyber Police Department together with the Main Investigation Department of the National Police.
It was established that the organized criminal group consisted of 10 people. The attackers specialized in the manufacture of fake seeds of crops. Products were marked with trademarks of famous world manufacturers. Implemented counterfeiting to state-owned enterprises, farms and individuals through the official platform of the electronic public procurement system of Ukraine.
Several national universities, state-owned enterprises and international companies suffered losses from the illegal activities. According to preliminary estimates, the amount of losses reaches 5 million hryvnias. Currently, police officers are identifying other persons to whom counterfeit products were sold. Based on the results, additional qualifications will be provided.
Law enforcement officers conducted searches in the territory of Zaporizhia, Dnipropetrovsk and Kharkiv regions at the place of residence of the defendants, in warehouses and printing houses. According to the results, seeds that do not meet the requirements of DSTU, forged certificates of conformity, equipment for manufacturing and more than two million hryvnias have been removed.
On this fact, criminal proceedings have been opened under Part 2 of Art. 229 (Illegal use of a mark for goods and services, brand name, qualified indication of the origin of the goods) and part 3 of Art. 191 (Appropriation, embezzlement of property or possession of it by abuse of official position) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The defendants face up to eight years in prison. Investigative actions continue.
