The National Police is ready to increase the number of police officers in the AHs, just give support — Igor Klymenko
The head of the National Police Igor Klymenko said that the project “Community Police Officer” started three years ago. It started in the Dnipropetrovsk region. At first he was met with skepticism, but three years later we can safely talk about his successes.
He said this during the Safe Community forum.
“A community police officer is an officer who lives in a community and understands well who needs help and support. Currently, 755 community police officers serve 440 territorial communities, covering 23 regions, another 220 officers are being trained. It was possible to reduce the number of serious and especially crimes in the amalgamated communities thanks to the launch of the project “Community Police Officer”, - said Igor Klymenko.
According to the head of the National Police, the territorial community should not stand aside in the implementation of this project, because it is the safety of citizens.
“We are ready to provide communities with qualitatively trained personnel. We ask the territorial communities not much — to equip a police station, allocate funds for the purchase of fuel for service vehicles, because this is a necessity, and, of course, to provide POGA with stationery. This is the necessary minimum. Of course, if possible, the community should provide housing for the officer,” he said.
Chairman of the Pisochynska territorial community of Kharkiv region Oleg Chernobay shared his experience of launching the project “Police Officer of the Community”.
“We had some doubts about the Community Police Officer project. However, we rejected them because the residents of our community had one request — a safe environment. Therefore, while the police officers were being trained in Kharkiv, our community took care of the place where the officers would serve. We equipped the room with everything necessary, carried out repairs there. And already in January 2020, four community police officers began to work. This is a new example of a law enforcement officer. We saw that this is the availability that never was,” he stressed.
The head of the Pisochynska territorial community noted that before the implementation of this project, the nearest department was 20 kilometers away. And now a 24/7 police officer works with the community.
“Therefore, already this year we signed another Memorandum with the National Police to increase the number of community police officers by two more. However, the community does not stand aside. We are trying to provide decent conditions of service,” Oleg Chernobay stressed.
Police officer of the community Andriy Shapovalov spoke about the work in the project “Police Officer of the Community”.
“The first challenge was to break stereotypes about the policeman among the population. We had to prove to people that our job was to keep them safe and help them 24/7. I want to share with you three projects that we have implemented. Video surveillance system “Safe City”. Now, on 50 square kilometers, 250 cameras that recognize the state license plates of cars rotate 360° and shoot at a distance of up to 4 kilometers. The “Stranger in the Community” online community. This is an active group of police officers and residents in the messenger. Such an information exchange tool allows you to identify offenders, unknown persons in the territory of the community. Participants in the chat are community police officers who promptly respond to messages, check information and take action,” the officer noted.
He added that police officers working in the community placed in the Telegram bot information about police officers of each community of Kharkiv region. This is so that everyone who lives in the community or is a guest of the community knows who to turn to in case of need.
“I am sure that success will be achieved only by those who focus and consolidate their efforts, resources and knowledge around the common goal — a safe, comfortable and modern community,” Andriy Shapovalov stressed.
Recall that in Kyiv the forum “Safe community” was started.
