In Zhytomyr region, police investigators reported a man on suspicion of contamination of land with poisonous substances
On May 28, investigators of the Korosten District Department of the GUNP of Zhytomyr region under the procedural leadership of the district prosecutor's office announced a suspicion of a 54-year-old resident of the district center. By his illegal actions, the attacker caused damage to the environment for more than a million hryvnias.
During the pre-trial investigation, police investigators found that the suspect was in the area of the neighborhood in the village. Kupishchi stacked plastic and metal barrels with hazardous waste and chemicals. At the same time, he did not properly equip the place of their storage, including anti-filtration structures. The man poured the poisonous contents of the containers into the open ground, and used the barrels for further sale.
With such acts, the suspect actually destroyed the plant cover, and the surrounding soils were contaminated with toxic chemicals. According to experts, blatant violations of environmental legislation caused damage to the environment in the amount of more than UAH 1.1 million.
Suspicion of committing an offense, according to Part 1 of Art. 239 (Pollution or spoilage of land) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, investigators sent the man to the place of residence by postal means, since the defendant is hiding from the authorities of pre-trial investigation.
Investigative actions are currently underway within the framework of the mentioned criminal proceedings. For this, the defendant faces a fine of one to four thousand of the minimum non-taxable income of citizens or deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for a period of up to three years.
The pre-trial investigation is carried out by the investigators of the Korosten District Directorate of the GUNP under the procedural direction of the Korosten District Prosecutor's Office.
