In Zhytomyr region, law enforcement officers exposed the scheme for the sale of free medicines for cancer patients
On September 24, investigators of the Main Directorate of the National Police in the region conducted searches in the offices of one of the medical institutions of Zhytomyr and a number of pharmacy points. The measures were carried out as part of the investigation of a criminal scheme of enrichment at the expense of cancer patients. Installation of all involved is ongoing.
During the pre-trial investigation, evidence of the organization of illegal activities by the head of one of the departments of the hospital was collected. He involved his colleague in the implementation of the criminal scheme.
Previously, doctors prescribed drugs to real patients who were undergoing antitumor therapy, but they did not receive them. The drugs were subsequently written off according to the documents, and in reality they were sold to representatives of private pharmacy chains in several regions of Ukraine at significantly reduced prices. According to available information, such a scheme has been operating for at least the past six months, providing monthly income to its organizers in the amount of about half a million hryvnias.
Police investigators with the participation of employees of the USBU and under the procedural guidance of the Zhytomyr Regional Prosecutor's Office conducted a number of sanctioned searches in doctors' offices and in pharmacy points.
On the same day, cash in the amount of almost half a million hryvnias and another batch of medicines (50 packs of a valuable anti-tumor drug) were seized from the car of one of the participants in the criminal scheme.
Currently, further pre-trial investigation under Part 3 of Art. 191 (Appropriation, embezzlement of property or possession of it by abuse of official position) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. Law enforcement officers identify other possible participants in illegal activities.
Legislation for such an offense provides for punishment in the form of restriction of liberty for a period of 3 to 5 years or imprisonment for a period of 3 to 8 years, with deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for a period of up to 3 years.
