In Zhytomyr region, police have completed an investigation into the theft of 14 million hryvnias from a state bank
Detectives of the Investigative Department of the GUNP in the Zhytomyr region have completed a pre-trial investigation into the criminal activities of the organized group. Currently, its participants have been charged with unauthorized interference in the operation of automated systems of the state bank, falsification of means of access to accounts and legalization (laundering) of stolen funds.
The criminal activity was exposed by detectives of the investigative department of the GUNP under the operational support of the police of the Department of Strategic Investigations in the area of DSR NP of Ukraine and under the procedural guidance of the regional prosecutor's office.
During the investigative actions, it was established that the organizer of the grouping was the chief accountant of one of the bank branches of the city of Zhytomyr. A local entrepreneur and two private individuals were also involved to carry out all the operations of unauthorized access to the automated banking system and the laundering of stolen funds.
During 2011-2016, thanks to the developed scheme, the defendants stole more than UAH 14 million from the branch's interbank multi-currency accounts. These funds were subsequently, after signing applications for the issuance of cash, on the basis of forged documents received at the cash desk of the bank branch and used at their own discretion, including for conducting business (business) activities.
Therefore, the members of the group are accused of committing criminal acts provided for in Part 4 and Part 5 of Art. 185 (Theft), part 2 of Art. 200 (Illegal actions with transfer documents, payment cards and other means of access to bank accounts...), Part 2 and Part 3 of Art. 209 (Legalization (laundering) of income obtained by criminal means), Part 1 and Part 2 of Art. 361 (Unauthorized interference in the work of electronic computers (computers), automated systems...) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, and therefore they face punishment in the form of imprisonment for a term of 8 to 12 years with confiscation of property.
Note: in accordance with Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is considered innocent of the commission of a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until his guilt is proven in a lawful manner and established by a court indictment.
