The man was behind the wheel in a state of intoxication. In an attempt to evade responsibility, he drove a vehicle at a police officer and caused serious injuries. The offender was detained in accordance with Art. 208 of the Code of Criminal Procedure of Ukraine. He was reported on suspicion of committing two serious crimes.

On August 31, around 11 o'clock in the morning in the middle of the urban-type village of Mykhailivka, officers of the patrol police response sector of department No. 3 of the Vasilyevsky district police department stopped the Mazda car for violation of traffic rules.

When checking the documents, employees of the patrol police response sector found that a local resident of 1950 was driving with obvious signs of alcohol intoxication. There was also a 13-year-old passenger in the car.

Police officers offered the driver to undergo examination in a medical institution, but he categorically refused, locked himself in the cabin, started the engine and directed the vehicle to the policeman. As a result, a senior police sergeant was on the hood of a foreign car. However, this did not stop the driver and he continued to gain speed. Mazda traveled almost 5 km at high speed and stopped when it collided with a tree.

As a result, the police officer received serious bodily injuries in the form of a fracture of both legs. In addition, a minor passenger was diagnosed with a concussion of moderate severity.

The offender was detained in accordance with Art. 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.

In agreement with the Mikhailovsky Department of the Vasiliv District Prosecutor's Office, the defendant was informed of the suspicion of committing criminal offenses provided for in Part 3 of Article 345 (Threat or violence against an employee of a law enforcement agency) and Part 2 of Article 286-1 (Violation of the rules of road safety or operation transportation by persons driving vehicles in a state of intoxication) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

The most severe sanction under these articles provides for up to twelve years in prison.

In addition, criminal proceedings have been opened under Article 348 (Invasion of the life of an employee of a law enforcement agency, a member of a public organization for the protection of public order and the state border or a serviceman) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. For the commission of this particularly serious crime, imprisonment for a term of nine to fifteen years or life imprisonment is provided.
