In Zaporizhzhia, a group of persons will appear before the court: they organized a “call-center” with a monthly turnover of 2 million hryvnias
Impersonating themselves as bank employees, the attackers asked the victims for their details and later appropriated funds, some of which were converted into bitcoins.
The operatives of the Strategic Investigations Department in Zaporizhzhya region, together with the investigators of the Investigative Directorate of Regional Police, exposed a fraudulent “scheme” to seize citizens' funds and stopped the activities of the “Call-Centre”.
According to the investigation, the center was organized by a 28-year-old resident of Zaporizhzhia. Its employees, posing as employees of the security service of banking institutions, received personal data of individuals about bank cards and accounts - details and CVV-code. To do this, they used psychological methods of influence and acted according to pre-prescribed instructions. They also used a phone number replacement program to disguise their activities. Client databases were bought by attackers from DarkNet.
Three local residents helped the woman run a “business”. They were responsible for the selection, briefing and control of personnel, a report to the organizer on the amount of money received as a result of the transactions. The received money was transferred by the attackers to electronic wallets, to the cards of their own or controlled persons. In addition, some of the funds were converted into bitcoins.
Fraudulent “business” brought the organizer up to 2 million hryvnias every month, which she distributed among all participants in accordance with the functionality.
Based on the evidence received during the pre-trial investigation, the organizer and five members of the criminal group were informed of the suspicion under Part 4 of Art. 190 (Fraud committed by an organized group) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
Investigators completed the pre-trial investigation in criminal proceedings and, in agreement with the Zaporizhzhya Regional Prosecutor's Office, the indictment against all defendants was sent to court.
For the crimes committed, offenders are threatened with up to twelve years in prison with confiscation of property.
