Pilot project “Safety Educator” starts in Kharkiv region
To create a safe educational environment in the region, the Memorandum of Cooperation and Partnership was signed today by the heads of the Main Directorate of the National Police of Ukraine in Kharkiv Oblast (Region), the Main Department of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine and representatives of the Donetsk settlement territorial community.
The prevention project is designed to identify and prevent negative risks among children and adolescents, such as mistreatment of students, discrimination on any basis, bullying, suicidal or deviant behavior of children, their committing offenses, the use of psychoactive substances, the involvement of students in illegal activities, involvement of minors in destructive youth groups, unsatisfactory organization of road safety near an educational institution and fire safety in it, uncontrolled stay of outsiders in educational institutions and many others security issues.
According to the head of the Department of Juvenile Prevention of the National Police of Ukraine Vasyl Bohdan, 15 territorial communities in 9 regions of Ukraine have already joined the project with the prospect of introducing 17 “security educators”.
“A competition for the vacant position of security specialist in the educational environment will be announced soon. The selection of candidates for the position will be carried out by a commission formed by local self-government bodies. Educators will undergo specialized training with the involvement of police officers, the State Emergency Service, specialists in education and science, international specialists,” Vasyl Bohdan noted.
Specialists will be assigned to specific facilities where they will take care of a wide range of safety issues. A “safety educator” is a person who is to become a communicator in the community between an educational institution and law enforcement agencies to protect students, parents and teachers. It is planned that the security specialist will contribute to the early detection and elimination of negative phenomena in the institution, cooperate with police, rescuers, local and parental authorities.
