In Volyn, law enforcement officers stopped the activities of a criminal group involved in illegal operations with amber
It was established that at least 10 people - residents of Volyn and Rivne regions - are involved in illegal activities. The attackers set up a scheme to process and market amber to the United Arab Emirates. According to the results of the searches, the police seized 300 kg of precious stones and equipment worth almost UAH 1 million from the defendants.
Yesterday, July 23, employees of the Directorate of Strategic Investigations together with the investigators of the GUNP in the Volyn region and border guards under the procedural guidance of the Volyn Regional Prosecutor's Office and with the strong support of the fighters of the Rapid Action Corps, the special purpose police company, the border service department “Dozor-Zhytomyr” conducted 16 authorized searches of the places of residence of offenders, in vehicles involved in criminal activities for processing and marketing of amber.
During the searches, law enforcement officers liquidated three underground stone processing workshops that the attackers had equipped in Kovel and Lutsk. In the premises, about 300 kg of processed and untreated amber of various fractions, finished products made of stones, machines for manual processing and processing, additional equipment, in addition to this, a gun and cash were discovered and recovered. The estimated cost of seized equipment and precious stones reaches about one million hryvnias.
It was established that a 34-year-old resident of Kovel created a criminal group and established an illegal scheme for the purchase, storage and processing of amber raw in large quantities illegally mined in the territory of Volyn, Rivne and Zhytomyr regions. He provided financing for criminal activities, collected and paid funds, and determined the amount of remuneration for each member of the group. In addition to the organizer, nine more people are involved in illegal activities. All of them are residents of Volyn and Rivne regions.
Intruders bought stones and processed them in equipped workshops. The finished products, outside customs control, were transported to the Republic of Poland, from where the “goods” reached the United Arab Emirates (UAE), where they were sold. The funds received illegally were transported by the defendants to Ukraine on their own.
Investigative actions are currently underway within the framework of the criminal proceedings. The issue of imposing an arrest on the seized property and conducting the necessary examinations is resolved. All members of the criminal group will be notified of suspicion under Part 2 of Art. 240-1 (Illegal extraction, sale, acquisition, transfer, shipment, transportation, processing of amber) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
