8500 law enforcement officers will work in the elections on October 31 — Oleksandr Facevych
The Deputy Head of the National Police Oleksandr Facevych announced this today, October 27, during a briefing on ensuring law order in the extraordinary elections of the Kharkiv city mayor and the mid-term parliamentary elections in two single-mandate constituencies in the Kherson and Cherkasy oblasts.
According to him, law enforcement officers have already taken two district election commissions and all territorial election commissions under guard.
“In total, more than 8,500 law enforcement officers will be involved in the service, of which 5,300 are police officers, 1000 servicemen of the National Guard of Ukraine, 1500 employees of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, as well as cadets of the university system of the Ministry of Internal Affairs,” Oleksandr Facevych said.
In addition, additional reserves of special officers will be created to respond to a change in the operational environment. In each district where elections are held, investigative and operational teams and explosive service teams will be strengthened together with dog handlers.
“We are ready to respond promptly to violations related to the elections. Situation centers have already been transferred to emergency mode of operation, the interdepartmental headquarters of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine has been deployed. The police register and respond to all reports around the clock. We are ready to fulfill the tasks and will do everything to ensure the legal order and legality of the electoral process as much as possible,” Oleksandr Fatsevich said.
In turn, Deputy Chairman of the Central Election Commission Vitaliy Plukar noted the cooperation of the Central Election Commission with the National Police, which takes place at a high level.
Since the beginning of the election campaign, 155 reports of possible violations of electoral legislation have been registered. 28 administrative protocols have been drawn up, 34 criminal proceedings have been initiated, the largest under Art. 157 of the Criminal Code “Obstruction of the exercise of the right to vote or the right to participate in a referendum”, also under Art. 160 KKU “Bribery of Voters”.
