In Ternopil region, police have exposed a group of individuals to extort almost 7 million hryvnias in bitcoins
To force the businessman to give money, the attackers set fire to two of his stores. The organizer and his two accomplices have already been informed of the suspicion. The issue of choosing preventive measures for suspects is being resolved. For their actions, they can be threatened with up to 10 years in prison.
The operatives of the strategic investigations department in the Ternopil region and the investigators of the investigative department of the regional police department have identified the members of the criminal group and received evidence of their involvement in the crimes.
At the end of May this year, the victim contacted the police with a claim of damage to his stores as a result of the fire. Later, the police found out that the property was damaged as a result of arson, and established the person involved - a resident of the Vinnytsia region. Subsequently, the victim began to be demanded almost 7 million hryvnias in bitcoins (equivalent to 250 thousand dollars). THE UNITED STATES). In case of non-compliance, he and his family were threatened with physical abuse, as well as destruction of property.
The measures carried out managed to establish the person who, in fact, negotiated the threats. This is a resident of the Kyiv region, who, as it turned out later, works as an organizer. The latter is a 25-year-old doctor who tried to solve his own financial problems in this way.
Yesterday, September 12, the Operator of Terrain Management of Strategic Investigations in Ternopil, Kyiv, Vinnytsia regions and Kyiv, investigators of the police investigative department in Ternopil region with the force support of KORD simultaneously conducted 10 sanctioned searches of the places of residence of the defendants, in other cities the things they use and in the vehicles.
In addition, on the basis of the evidence received, the police informed the organizer and two of his accomplices about suspicion under Part 2 of Art. 189 (extortion) and Part 2 of Art. 194 (intentional destruction or damage to property) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
Procedural guidance in criminal proceedings is carried out by the Ternopil District Prosecutor's Office. Prosecutors petitioned the court to choose preventive measures for offenders in the form of detention.
Measures are underway to establish the whereabouts of another member of the group and bring him to justice.
For extortion and damage to property, defendants may face up to 10 years in prison.
