In Sumy region, police reported on suspicion of a group of persons for illegal wood chopping with fatal consequences
Recall that the event happened about two months ago. Employees of the Criminal Investigation Department of the GUNP in the Sumy region, together with the operatives of the Shostkin district police department, together with the criminal analysis department, established the involvement of a local resident in the murder of a 37-year-old Shostkin, who was searched for almost a month by the entire police of the region as a missing person. The suspect, together with two accomplices, took the victim into the forest, killed him, and in order to hide the crime, the body was buried.
On May 28, 2021, the Shostkin District Police Department, under the procedural leadership of the Shostka District Prosecutor's Office, reported the suspicion of three men under Part 4 of Art. 246 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
According to the investigation, three local residents, according to a preliminary conspiracy, in the coastal protection zone of the Ivotka River in March 2021, without the appropriate permission, illegally cut down 62 trees of the “alder” breed. According to the conclusion of the examination, the suspected illegal actions caused damage to the natural environment in the amount of almost 400 thousand UAH.
The men attracted another local resident to the transportation of illegally cut trees. When he was stopped by police officers, the man gave testimony to law enforcement officers, indicating who hired him to transport wood. Already on March 27, 2021, the suspects took this man out of town to convince him not to cooperate with law enforcement. During communication, one of them took out an ax from the trunk of a car, which struck the victim three times. A 37-year-old man died at the scene. The body of the deceased was buried in a forest glade. Only a month later, law enforcement officers managed to establish the circumstances of the disappearance of the witness and expose the persons involved in the crime.
Therefore, in addition to illegal logging of the forest, one of the men will also be liable for premeditated murder (Part 1 of Art. 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine), two other citizens are charged with concealment of a crime (Part 1 of Art. 396 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
The illegal activities of three people were exposed by employees of the Shostka district police department under the procedural guidance of the prosecutor's office.
