About 1600 dogs of 26 different breeds are in service in the State Border Guard Service. The five most popular breeds of service dogs of border guards include: German Shepherd, Belgian
Shepherd (Malinois), English Cocker Spaniel, Labrador Retriever and Fox `yer.

And among the “exclusive”, which are the smallest in the border department, are the beagle and the Riesenschnauzer.

During 2021, more than 70 German and Belgian Shepherd puppies were born in the border department.

In addition, during the year, border guards also purchased more than 70 German, Belgian and Dutch sheepdogs. Note that dog trainers in the service can also use their own dogs.

Mostly dogs between the ages of 10 months and three years are taken for training, training and service.

Four-legged assistants aged 8 to 9 years “retire”. So, during the year more than 50 service dogs of respectable age became “pensioners”. In 2021, the Kennel Training Center of the State Border Guard Service trained almost 400 dog inspectors.
In the service, border guards use search dogs — to search and detain offenders, special dogs — to detect drugs, weapons and explosives.
Dogs are also taught to detect cigarettes.

Please note that since this year, search and assault four-legged fighters have also been trained for the special unit of DOZOR of the State Border Guard Service, whose task is to detain armed criminals and fight terrorism.

Summing up the results of the service, we note that with the use of service dogs during 2021, border guards detained almost 250 violators, found more than 180 pieces of various weapons, more than .5,5 thousand pieces of ammunition, 25 kg of explosives and 35 kg of drugs. In addition, “detection dogs” found more than a million packs of smuggled cigarettes.
