The attackers demanded 6,700 US dollars of non-existent debt from a resident of Kolomyia.
It is known that the group consisted of three residents of Ivano-Frankivsk region. The organizer is a previously convicted person who has ties to local crime and the status of a so-called “spy” for one of the cities in the region. “Specialized” attackers in extorting funds with threats.
Operatives of the Directorate of Strategic Investigations in Ivano-Frankivsk region, together with investigators of the regional police department, exposed the participants of the group. In particular, it was established that they demanded 6,700 US dollars of non-existent debt from a resident of the city of Kolomyia. Yesterday, April 5, police officers with the participation of the special unit CORD conducted eight searches in the places of residence and in the vehicles of intruders. Detected and seized: mobile phones and documents confirming illegal activity.
Currently, under the procedural guidance of the Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Prosecutor's Office, the organizer and one of his accomplices have already been informed of the suspicions. Both are charged with a criminal offense provided for in Part 2 of Art. 189 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (Extortion).
The pre-trial investigation is currently ongoing. Law enforcement officers are working to establish a full circle of persons involved and additional facts of criminal activity of the group.
